A Day in the Life
Where Hath Thou Been?5/18/06

I know people (fans, friends and family) have been wondering where I have been. Well, I’ve been around, but I haven’t been able to really sit down and update the website. If you really want to know what happened, somebody stole my phone, ipod and computer out of my rental car in N.J. It definitely set me back for a little while. Whoever did it must have been very desperate and I’m a strong believer in karma. So, they’re going to suffer threefold for what they did.

At least everybody can see that if I don’t do this nobody else is going to do it for me. If I’m not on here updating the website constantly, then it won’t get updated. Don’t get me wrong I love my web designers (Quadsimia) and they do a great job. They do whatever I ask them to do, but since I haven’t been able to do anything, I haven’t been asking them to do anything.

For those of you who know me, you know that I’m never sitting still. I am always trying to keep things moving in a positive direction and my mind is always swirling. I am also always trying to give back. So, although I haven’t been letting you guys know on here, I do have some things in the works. May 29th it is going down, like never before! I will tell you more about that later in this Day in a Life.

On another note, I have been working hard everyday (4-5 days a weeks) getting myself ready for this upcoming season. I workout daily from about 9:00am - 12:00pm. When I first get to the Colts Complex, I do a little rehab on my ankle. Nothing serious, its just to get all the motion back in them. Since I sprained my ankle several times, back in college, I haven’t had all the motion that I’m supposed to have. Because of that, I had some limitations during the season that I’m trying to overcome this year.

After my rehab, I hit the weights…hard! I am a strong believer that what you do in the weight room has a direct effect on your health and injury proneness, or lack thereof, on the field. On Mondays and Fridays after I lift, I run on the treadmill. We have specific programs, on the treadmill, that our strength coach put together for us. On Wednesday, we (the defensive line) run as a group. On that day, my days are a lot shorter. We run, do drills and then go home.

I also periodically, watch film with my coach. Earlier in the off-season, he used to have me in his office everyday watching film. Lately, its been more like twice a week. We sit down and break down last year’s film. Although I only played less than 150 plays, there is still much learning that I get from watching the film. I not only watch myself, I watch my teammates as well as almost all of the other defensive lineman in the league.

Outside of that, I’ve spent the majority of my time, planning this Memorial Day project. It’s been a lot of work, but it is really coming along well. Sometime after my charity event/cocktail party, I came up with the idea of having a big event on Memorial Day at Liberty Street Park. A lot of people wonder how do I come up with these ideas. I can’t tell you exactly why or how I do, but…

I have fond memories of growing up in the small town of Freehold and Memorial Day. From the parade going through town, to the drill team competition to the basketball games and BBQ (block party) at Liberty Street Park. I actually participated in some of the games myself a couple of times. Unfortunately, the courts aren’t the same as I remember them, or half the shape they were in, when I used to play on them. They are all beat up. Most of the rims are loose, don’t have nets, or missing altogether.

There has been a lot of negativity surrounding the area lately, especially among young boys and men. One of the incidences that really hit close to home was the death of Kemo. Kemo was a couple years younger than me, but I knew him and a lot of his family. I remember him growing up in front of my eyes in Freehold. When he got shot, I happened to be in N.J. and in Asbury Park (where it happened), at my cousins house. I was right around the corner in the studio, doing my little music thing. That really made me think and opened my eyes up to the reality of the latest rise of gangs.

I feel like young men don’t have enough outlets to release all of the energy that they have bottled up. On this day and this day forward, I want to give them a way to release that energy. So, I teamed up with the YMCA and put together the Liberty Street Park Project which we entitled “Bring Back the Park.”

First, we decided to replace all the courts at Liberty Park. Next, I wanted to have a basketball tournament, but I didn‘t want to leave any age group out. So we are having a 5vs5 for ages 17+, a 3vs3 for ages 12-16 and some horse for kids 6-11. To go along with that, we are also having a slam dunk contest. We also have clowns, face painting, moonwalk and many, many other activities for the kids. There is a cash prize for the 5vs5 and prizes and trophies for the winners of all of the other games.

So, If you are in N.J. on that weekend, or more specifically in the Freehold area on Memorial Day, please stop by and show your support. Thanks…Just another Day in the Life.
